Ribbon Cutting – July 13, 2015
At the end of the day on Saturday, July 11, 2015 volunteer teams from the Boy Scouts of America and USAF completed a month-long renovation of an unused facility owned by Transition Services, Inc. Demolition by contractors beginning on June 10, 2015 culminated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring JD Scott, and Jonathan Scott of the Property Brothers on July 13, 2015.
On the finale of Season Two of HGTV’s popular series “Brother vs. Brother,” contractor brother Jonathan beat his twin Drew by selling his renovated property for $1,148 more. The net proceeds from the sale of both homes was $88,888.
Rebuilding Together, a longtime charitable partner of HGTV, was selected to receive these proceeds to be used for the benefit of a Las Vegas nonprofit organization. Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada (RTSNV), the Nevada affiliate of the national organization in turn selected Transition Services, Inc. to become this beneficiary. RTSNV provides critical repairs to low-income homeowners in the greater Las Vegas valley. Occasionally, with the support of generous donors such as HGTV, we are able to assist another nonprofit with construction needs.
Transition Services, Inc. provides training and meaningful work for adults with developmental disabilities. The renovated property adjacent to their facility will now provide much needed space for expansion of their campus.
In addition to the discounted services provided by licensed contractors, vendors donated materials and provided skilled staff as volunteers. What began as a shell of a building is now a useful energy-efficient space. A new roof replaced the badly damaged one on the large breezeway and the main building. All new electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, windows, bathrooms and a new kitchen were installed. A large exterior ramp now makes the facility ADA compliant.
RTSNV prides itself on providing maximum service to the community by successfully leveraging resources. What began with an $88,888 budget when completed represents $155,457.78 in fair market value!
Thank you to HGTV and the Property Brothers!
