Facts
Neighbors helping neighbors, like the barn-raising of old, is the American spirit in action. Rebuilding Together was born of that spirit as people came together to help their low-income neighbors fix their houses - first in Texas, then in Washington, D.C., and then California and beyond and was known as Christmas in April.
In 2000 the organization, recognizing the growing needs of low-income homeowners, expanded its mission to provide more year-round services and a greater diversity of services, all focused around the core goal of rehabilitation and revitalization. With the expanded mission came a new name, a name that reflects the work and the partnership approach used by our organization. Today various service modules are under way in many communities, among them emergency services, home modifications, weatherization and nonprofit facility repair.
On National Rebuilding Day 2008, 30 homes and one nonprofit facility were adopted and benefitted from our services and volunteers' hard work.
- Rebuilding Together of Southern Nevada is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1994 and was formerly known as Christmas in April. As the scope of our services has expanded to include year-round emergency home repairs, the name was changed at the National level.
- Rebuilding Together of Southern Nevada is one of over 200 affiliates throughout the United States. We have representation in every state.
- Our National headquarters are located in Washington, D.C. To support our programs, funds are raised from individuals, corporate sponsorships, charitable foundations, individual and from Federal, State and Local sources of public funds.
